Zinck says he'll fight potential explusion

House Speaker Gordie Gosse says the legislature will sit tomorrow to discuss the fate of embattled Dartmouth North MLA Trevor Zinck.
Zinck says he'll be in attendance when the house reconvenes at noon and is vowing to fight his potential expulsion from the legislature.
On Monday, Zinck entered guilty pleas to charges of breach of trust and fraud over $5,000 related to the MLA spending scandal.
The independent MLA has been facing calls from all three parties in the house to resign.
Premier Darrell Dexter says it's important to deal with the Zinck matter as soon as possible.
Zinck was first elected in 2006 as an NDP MLA. He was re-elected in 2009.
Imperial Oil to convert Dartmouth refinery to terminal operation

Dartmouth's Imperial Oil refinery will be converted into a terminal operation.
The company issued a news release today saying a buyer for the facility couldn't be found, even after a year-long search.
Imperial Oil CEO Rich Kruger says the conversion to a terminal operation shows the challenges of operating a refinery in competitive conditions.
The news release says the conversion is planned for later this year, depending on the progress of the modifications.
Drug charges laid in Dartmouth bust

Halifax police say a man is facing charges in connection with a drug search at a Dartmouth home.
Officers executed a search warrant at a Slayter Street Apartment around nine last night.
Police say they seized a quantity of hydromorphone, crack-cocaine, marijuana, cash and a prohibited switchblade knife.
A 40-year-old Dartmouth man was arrested at the scene.
He faces three counts of possession of drugs and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon.
He was released from custody and is due in court August 13.
Police name new mascot

The votes have been cast and the Halifax Regional Police force's new mascot will be known as Blue.
Police launched a contest in late May, giving Halifax students in grades primary through six a chance to name the German Shepherd.
Nearly 120 submissions were entered and then whittled down to a list of four top contenders for online voting.
Blue took 49 per cent of the total vote, beating out Cali, Linkz and Hero.
Eight-year-old Tristan, the son of a police officer, submitted the winning name.
Trevor Zinck doesn't want to leave

Trevor Zinck will have to leave the legislature kicking and screaming. Premier Darrell Dexter says he will have Zinck kicked out if he does not choose to resign his seat in the legislature himself. Zinck, a former NDP causes member pleaded guilty earlier this week in a case of breach of trust for taking advantage of his constituency allowance. He was one of four politicians who were charged after an investigation into constituency allowance spending early 2011. House Speaker Gordie Gosse and deputy premier Frank Corbett are scheduled to meet today to discuss what should measures should be taken in this prickly case.
Rash of Break and Enters in Halifax Surburb

Police are looking for the Public’s help in identifying who is behind a number of break and enters in Dartmouth. Police say ten homes have been broken into in the main Street area as well as Woodlawn and Mount Edwards roads. Officers say that the suspects make sure no one is home by knocking on the front door and if no on answers they break in, steal valuables then leave through a back door. The Break-ins occurred during the daytime hours in all cases.
New details on man charged with second degree murder in Halifax

50-year-old Paul Trevor Calnen of Hammonds Plains has been charged with second degree murder in connection with the disappearance of a missing woman in March.
34-year-old Reita Jordan was last seen by friends in Halifax on March 19th. Neighbors of Calnen say that Jordan was living with him in his home in Hammonds Plains but that Calnen said that she took off with another man.
Police say Calnen was arrested on Brunskwick Street in the city Monday afternoon around 2:35 pm and appeared in court for an arraignment yesterday.
His next court appearance is set for July 22nd. He will remain in custody until then.
