Highway Twinning

A newly twinned section of Highway 101 has officially opened, but local twinning advocates are pushing for more work on the dangerous stretch of road. Work on the 7.4-kilometre section between St. Croix and Three Mile Plains in Hants County was started five years ago and cost $22 million to complete. Transportation Minister Bill Estabrooks says the new segment is a "welcome addition to the highway" that will "ensure some safety."

Twinning advocates welcome the addition, but they say much more needs to be done to make the highway safer and better for transportation of commercial goods.

Andy Woolaver of the Eastern Kings Chamber of Commerce says the next big step will be to accelerate the twinning of the highway to Coldbrook. As well, he says the twinning of the Windsor section, which includes the causeway over the Avon River, also remains unresolved.
